Kent Mawhinney, 54, who has been behind bars since his arrest on Jan. 7, appeared in Superior Court in Stamford for less than a minute on Thursday, Feb. 20, in order to enter his plea.
Mawhinney is a central figure in the high-drama case of the murder of Jennifer Dulos, who was last seen on Friday, May 24, 2019, after dropping off her five children at school in New Canaan.
A longtime friend of Fotis Dulos, Mawhinny also represented him in a $2.5 million lawsuit filed by his mother-in-law, Gloria Farber.
Mawhinney, who is being held on a $2 million bond, has also faced additional charges in his own divorce case in which he is accused of sexual assault and violating a protective order.
Since his arrest, he has lost custody of his children and his law license has been suspended.
Arrest documents in the Jennifer Dulos case claim that Mawhinney was instrumental in helping Fotis Dulos with an alibi and that Dulos called him while he was dumping bags of trash in Hartford that contained items with Jennifer Dulos' blood, including her clothing.
In addition, he is accused of digging a "human grave" at a gun club in East Granby, arrest documents say.
Since Fotis Dulos' death on Jan. 30, following a suicide attempt, the prosecution's case has turned toward Mawhinny and Michelle Troconis, Dulos' former girlfriend.
Troconis, who is free on a $1.5 million bail, has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit murder.
